Women in Black in Israel; women in Gaza.


Years of illegal military occupation, restriction of movement, blockades and destruction of homes has caused devastation to communities in the West Bank, East Jerusalem  and Gaza.  This is made worse by Israel’s plans to annex more land  in the illegally occupied Palestinian territories,

Women in Black Israel

Women in Black vigils originated in Jerusalem, Israel in January, 1988, in response to the beginning of the first Palestinian Intifada. The message “Stop the Occupation” appeared on the image of a hand signalling “stop”.

Today, vigils continue in Jerusalem Gan Shmuel, Haifa  and Tel Aviv .

Women in Gaza

“Women pay an extra price during conflict and crisis, due to the traditional role women play. Even before COVID-19, the rates of violence against women was high in Gaza.”
