This week we planned to focus on the right to refuse to kill, focussing on consciencious objectors in the Israeli Defence Force. Our message tonight is for an end to the air-strikes, destruction and murder and for peace, and Hallel’s message remains as relevant as ever.
Issue: 15th May is International CO Day when we recall all those who have and still struggle for the right to refuse to kill. In Israel, Hallel Rabin, was imprisoned for 56 days for refusing conscription. In her refusal statement, she stated
“I was raised on the values of freedom, compassion and love. Fighting to keep another nation enslaved contradicts these values… While I know my refusal is small and personal, I wish to be the change I want to see in the world, and to show that another way is possible.”
