75 years of occupation and injustice for Palestine

On 15 May Palestinians will be commemorating the 75th anniversary of the Nakba, the process of ethnic cleansing, colonisation and dispossession that saw over 750,000 Palestinians driven into exile and more than 500 towns and villages wiped from the map.  Violence and injustice continue.

Since January 2023, at least 18 Palestinian children have been killed by Israeli troops. Demolition of Palestinian homes and commercial buildings continues and children are arrested, held in detention without trial.  Israeli troops have prevented Muslims and Christians from celebrating holy days – making violent incursions into the Al-Aqsa Mosque and stopping Christians entering Jerusalem.

In March, Mr Sunak and MrNetanyahu met in London and signed UK-Israeli roadmap. The Balfour Project made this comment on the meeting:  It marks the aggressive progress of our Government’s selective amnesia concerning Israel/Palestine. No mention of the two-state outcome which remains bipartisan UK policy, which Mr Netanyahu rejects and is doing his utmost to make impossible. He is no partner for a just peace with the Palestinians. Nothing on the Palestinian right to self-determination, because Mr Netanyahu does not believe in it.

FREE PALESTINE – END APARTHEID – END THE OCCUPATION is the focus for a national demonstration to be held on  Saturday 13th May   Organised by Palestine Solidarity Campaign, CND, Palestinian Forum in Britain, Friends of Al-Aqsa, Muslim Association of Britain and many Trades Unions.

Women in Black in London stand in solidarity with Palestinian women in the Occupied Territories in their struggle for justice, peace, well-being and a secure, prosperous and nonviolent future for themselves and their children. We stand with Israeli partners too, such as Women in Black Tel Aviv and Jerusalem, the Coalition of Women for Peace, Machsom Watch and other organizations in which Jewish and Palestinian Israeli women work together for a peace agreement and sustain contact with Palestinian women in the West Bank and Gaza. With them, we call for full equality in Israel for Jewish and non-Jewish citizens alike.

To the Prime Minister, 10 Downing Street, London SW1A 2AA

Dear Prime Minister: on this 75th anniversary of the Palestinian Nakba, with Women in Black I appeal to the British Government to use all means in its power to influence the Israeli Government to redirect its policies towards ending the illegal occupation of the West Bank, East Jerusalem and Gaza. This must include:

  • The recognition of Palestine as an independent state.
  • A challenge to the Israeli government’s flouting of international law in relation to settlement expansion and discrimination towards Palestinians.
  • An end to UK arms sales to Israel.  The weapons and military technology that we sell are used to enforce  the illegal occupation of Palestine.
